Doing Character Voices For Kids

When you’re a parent, you get to do all sorts of ridiculous things and usually you embarrass yourself in the process. One of the things my boys love is when I do the voice of Elmo for them. Now, my throat always hurts after from the vocal chord strain but they laugh and giggle so the little bit of discomfort after doing the voice of Elmo is worth it.

If I could figure out how to do the voices of other favourite characters I would happily switch away from being Elmo for a while. I can’t do accents (every accent I do sounds Russian) so my repertoire at this time is very limited. You should hear my husband read bedtime stories to this kids as he can do British accents and in the style of numerous different characters. My kids always pick at their blankets and look bored when I’m the one reading them stories. It isn’t that I’m not animated, I just can’t make my voice change into different characters…. except for Elmo and I don’t blame them for not wanting Elmo to make a cameo in every bedtime story.
